Freelance writing is one the best options for this line of work.
Companies or websites are looking to pay you to write for them – blog posts, case studies, articles, etc.
As a freelance writer, you may be paid per word or article. This is cheaper for the company than hiring a full-time staff writer.
Some news organizations even hire freelance writers to write articles on a weekly/monthly basis – but you’ll have the flexibility of not being tied to that one company. You can be writing for 5 different companies a month.
Getting started is easy – sign up at any of the freelance work sites – Upwork, Contena, FlexJobs – and search for freelance writing work needed.
Or sign up at a site like Fiverr and offer your services where companies/people can look at your profile and hire you. You can accept work based on the pay and amount of work required.
2. Sell Online

Selling things online is a great and easy way to make extra cash on the side. There are so many ways to go about this – you can set up an eBay account, sell on Craigslist, or open up a Shopify site.
You can sell any unnecessary junk around the house that could be useful to someone else. Craigslist and eBay are great for this!
Make sure to take a few nice photos with good lighting of the items you want to sell, and include a good description of the item so people looking have the best information needed to purchase your item.
With Shopify, you’re able to set up your own virtual store. You can customize it with your preferred theme, create a great landing page, and link your social media accounts for your shop.
And here’s a great thing about Shopify – you can either sell your own items, or drop ship (this is where you don’t hold any inventory, but connect the supplier to a customer and have the items on your Shopify store available for customers to buy from).
3. Blogging

Blogging has become really easy to start these days. You just need to pick a domain name (your site name), a hosting platform (Hostgator, Siteground) and a site platform like WordPress.
And here’s the best part – you can blog about pretty much anything that interests you. Cooking, finance, cars, fashion – the list is endless.
To make money from your blog, write interesting and helpful articles so people will visit your blog, allowing you to build up traffic and grow your readership.
Once you have solid traffic numbers, you can monetize your blog by either affiliate marketing (this is when you link a product/service of a company in your blog and that company will pay you every time someone clicks the link and purchases their product/service), ads, or selling products such as eBooks and training courses.
4. Social Media Management

Businesses of all sorts want to have a social media presence to grow their brand name, reach more customers, and advertise their new products/services.
But smaller businesses might not have the time or a team member to manage their social media account(s). That’s where you come in!
You can either go to your local businesses and ask if they’d like to have you manage their social media accounts or you can offer this service on a freelance website (like Upwork).
The more clients you get, the more money you can make. As a social media manager, you’ll create engaging content, create posts, and interact with followers on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
5. Create websites for local businesses

Surprisingly, a lot of businesses don’t have a website that people can go on and check out their services. This is mainly for local businesses.
They might not know how to create one, or just never found any value in it. This is an opportunity for you to show them that:
1) you can create a website for their company and
2) show them how having a website for their customers can be beneficial to the company.
